It has been an interesting couple of days since the kids left. Storms, destruction, hail, wind, water water everywhere … but we are still here.
At one point Sat morning after the hail beating on the bus made it sound like a tin can and my trying to destroy one of our ebikes and discovering the truck was full of water since I left the sun roof open during the storm and water was dripping from both sides of the bus where it had been blown in by 60 mph winds … I told Hope I thought it was time to go home … obviously I was not meant for vacation 🙂
But … hope springs eternal and Sunday morning was beautiful. We joined Robin and Deb for church at a restaurant named “Crabs”. The music was spectacular and the morning was glorious … the pastor brought a message from First Thessalonians! It was one of Paul’s letters and addressed the way we are to treat each other. Some brothers and sisters have stumbled … help them up. Some have been hurtful … love them more. Some have lost their way … shine Christ’s light on their path through your actions … not harsh words. In short … Love you neighbor as yourself!
After church, Shannon and Mike joined us for lunch. Hush puppies, chicken fingers, shrimp gumbo, pop corn shrimp, sushi and good conversation to wash it all down. Mike and Shannon headed back to John’s Island after lunch. We hated to see them go but they both had to get back for work … ooooh … what a four-letter word 😉
Back at the RV resort Hope and I relaxed and she prepared for the evening meal … she is such a wonderful hostess and chef … Brad and Alice and Robin and Scott and Deb called from the Hilton pool lounge so we headed over to visit with them. The day was perfect and we got to meet Brad and Alice’s grand daughter … what a cutie. Brad did the grandpa thing in the pool as we sat a watched and visited. After a couple of refreshing drinks we, once again headed back to the bus.
That evening we feasted on a wonderful meal of empanadas and tamales. We brought them with us and Hope prepared fresh vegetables, a guacamole salad and sauces to go with them. Everyone had their fill … lots of visiting, catching up and I brought out my guitar and we sang a few songs … not around the campfire but it was pretty good. We called it an early evening. At least I thought it was. Hope and I settled in to watch some Hallmark movie when she decided we should walk over to the Sneaky-Tiki to check on the young ladies that tend bar there. Hope had taken them dinner earlier. While we were there we met John and Laurie. They are a young couple that is moving into the area and were just visiting the beach for the evening. Great conversation and we heading back to the bus to continue our visit and exchange contact info. I mentioned that Robin was a native and that she could probably suggest a few good places to look for a home. We chatted and shared and then they were gone … and I thought we were done … but nooooo … as we were taking the puppies for their last walk of the night Hope met a group of young guys that were staying in a sailing catamaran at the end of our pier. More visiting, more laughs an introductions and well … somewhere around midnight we finally called it a night. They promised to take us on a tour of the boat the next day.
Monday dawned into a beautiful quiet day. The beach was quiet … the boats were gone … the people were mostly gone. It was just Hope and me and the dogs and the boys on the catamaran. We waited for them to get up … they finlally appeared around 10 AM and we walked down the dock for a short visit. We learned the boat belonged to a friend we had not met and all of the others helped him re-fit the boat. It was a work in progress but it was very encouraging to see young people working together on a big project like this and then enjoying it together.
We spent the day alone … relaxing … NOT eating 😉 and playing with the dogs. Bruce and Caroline arrived around 7 PM as Hope and I were sitting outside. It was so good to see them. We caught up on family events and shared the sunset … it was excellent. They headed back to their hotel and we headed in … this time we did have an early night. Hope was asleep on the couch by 8:15 PM and I followed shortly after.
